Some fans were hoping that the 24-year-old Garcia would agree to fight Khan in a rematch in December and put him out of his misery once and for all.

Instead of that fight, Garcia has decided to face 35-year-old Erik Morales (52-8, 36 KO’s) in a pointless rematch on October 20th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The Garcia-Morales II rematch doesn’t make sense nor does the venue for the fight. That’s not location whether either fighter has any real fan base, and the fight itself doesn’t make sense. Garcia already schooled Morales by a 12 round unanimous decision in March of this year in Houston, Texas. The fight was dominated by Garcia, with the exception of a broken nose that he suffered from getting hit by one too many jabs from Morales. Garcia’s power and work rate was too much for Morales, who was only able to fight in brief spurts.

Morales hasn’t fought since then and blames his poor performance on a recent gallbladder surgery he had done which got in the way of his training for the fight. I’m sure it did keep Morales from being at a full 100 percent for the fight, but he was going to lose that fight anyway because Garcia is just too young and too strong for him at this stage in his career.

Garcia should have opted to take the Khan fight, because at least that fight has some interest. There is no interest with the Garia-Morales fight because it was so one-sided. If Garcia wasn’t interested in fighting Khan again, then he should have chosen one of the top contenders like Mike Alvarado, Ajose Olusegun or Lucas Matthysse. Any one of those fighters would have been absolutely perfect for Garcia, because they’re all active and fighting at the top of their game right now.

Once Garcia gets past Morales in another one-sided affair, he needs to turn his attention to Khan so that he can put the final nail in his career. Garcia just needs to finish him off and then move on to bigger and better fights like Alvarado, the Matthysse-Olusegun winner, and Peterson. Those guys are all waiting for Garcia, and they promise to be interesting fights for boxing fans. But he’s got to finish off Khan once and for good before he gets to those fights. Boxing doesn’t need another title milker, so hopefully Garcia doesn’t make this a habit.
