Image: Danny Garcia captures Ring 140 championship; Khan demoted below Matthysse at #2By Allan Fox: WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s) captured the Ring magazine light welterweight strap with his 4th round TKO win over Amir Khan last Saturday night at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Khan-Garcia fight was for the vacant Ring belt, and Garcia had little trouble beating Khan to capture the prestigious belt.

As for Khan, he was moved from #1 to #2, below Lucas Matthysse. If Khan continues to lose in the near future we’ll see him slide even further. However, from the sounds of it Khan will be matched very carefully from here on out until he can get another world title shot. Khan said this during an interview with Sky Sports News today. He’s going to be matched against the right opponents to get him that title shot.

Khan’s promoter Richard Schaefer is all over the place with his ideas for Khan. He’s talking about wanting a rematch against Garcia, as well as possible bouts against the winner of the Randall Bailey vs. Devon Alexander fight. I doubt these fights will happen because this isn’t careful matchmaking, and Khan very well could lose to all of those guys.

A rematch with Garcia would be a terrible idea at this point for Khan. He was just exposed as not having the chin to hang with Garcia, and a rematch would likely go the same way with Khan getting knocked cold very quickly.

Khan really got beat up in the short four round fight with Garcia, and he may need a considerable rest before he’s ready to see action again.
