Chisora: Haye stinks as a fighter

Image: Chisora: Haye stinks as a fighterBy William Mackay: Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) isn’t too impressed with former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) despite the fact that he’s accomplished far more than Chisora has and perhaps more than he ever will have. Haye and Chisora don’t care for one another, and will be facing off on Saturday night to prove who the better man is at Upton Park in a fight televised on BoxNation.

Chisora said to the express.co.uk “There will be 40,000-plus at the ground, millions watching on TV. My opinion of him? As a fighter he stinks, as a man he’s a goat…I don’t like him, and he doesn’t like me.”

Indeed, Haye thinks Chisora is a dimwitted, unskilled fighter that lucked out in fighting two injured large heavyweights in Robert Helenius and Vitali Klitschko. However, Chisora still lost both of those fights but fought them tough with both guys limited by serious injuries. Helenius injured his right hand, and badly injured his right shoulder. The shoulder injury has since been repaired through surgery but there’s questions whether Helenius will ever be the same fighter he once was.

Chisora has got to fight better than he did in those fights against Vitali and Helenius if he wants to beat Haye on Saturday. Chisora will have to put his punches together if he wants to beat Haye, because if you look at Chisora’s fights against Vitali and Helenius, he didn’t throw many combinations. He’s not going to beat Haye by throwing one slow punch at a time. Haye is a skilled fighter defensively, and he’ll no problems getting out of the way of Chisora’s shots.

At the same time, Chisora is going to be wide open to getting countered by Haye if he doesn’t find some hand speed. You can’t throw wide shots against Haye without paying for it. If Chisora is okay with having his chin tested all night long by Haye’s best shots then more power to him, but I don’t think that’s a wise thing for him to do. He was already dropped by Haye in their fist fight last February. We could see another quick KO for Haye.
