Against those guys Chavez Jr. didn’t need much skill, because weighing 180 pounds against these smaller guys was more than enough to do the job. But on September 15th, Chavez Jr. will be fighting someone with huge power, and excellent hand speed in Sergio Martinez.

In this fight Chavez Jr better hope that his trainer Freddie Roach can end his losing streak with his biggest fighters by teaching Chavez Jr. some skills that he’ll need to beat Martinez. Roach has recently seen two of his biggest starts Manny Pacquiao and Amir Khan taste defeat. Chavez Jr. is right up there with those two guys in terms of popularity, and he’s also in great danger of losing like they did.

havez Jr. will have to find a way to negative Martinez’s speed and power, because simply out-weighing him by 20 pounds isn’t going to be enough most likely. Chavez Jr. doesn’t have the best jab or the best right hand. His main specialty is to work a guy over on the inside after he’s used his weight to bully them up against the ropes.

Martinez is mobile middleweight, and won’t be someone that Chavez Jr. can herd into the ropes or the corner. If Chavez Jr. tries to do that Martinez will move out of his reach and blast him with hard power shots. Roach thinks that Chavez Jr will be able to walk though Martinez’s shots all night long to get the win. Hopefully Roach has come up with a better plan than that to get his fighter a win, because Chavez Jr. will fall apart if Martinez is allowed to tee of on him when he’s coming forward.
