Image: Charr could be tough fight for VitaliBy Sean McDaniel: With 41-year-old WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) looking over his shoulder at the October parliamentary elections that he’ll be taking part in Ukraine, as well as a possible mega fight against David Haye in March of next year, Vitali could be ripe for an upset against #7 WBC Manuel Charr (21-0, 11 KO’s) on September 8th at the Olimpiyskiy, in Moscow, Russia.

Vitali has gotten to the age where he’s no longer able to dominate guys like he did in the past. We saw that clearly in his win over Dereck Chisora last February where Vitali was forced to struggle against a fighter that was blown out by David Haye and easily decisioned by near novice Tyson Fury. Vitali, even when he’s at the top of his game now, is going to have problems dominating a fighter like Charr. The reason is because is a big fighter like Chisora, solidly built and plenty tough. Charr has an engine that go 12 rounds at a fast pace, and that’s the kind of fighter that gives Vitali fits. Charr is perhaps as tough a fighter as Haye is, but in a different way. Charr doesn’t have the hand speed that Haye has nor the one punch power. But he makes up for it by being bigger and is capable of taking better shots than Haye. Charr is also capable of bludgeoning his opponents into submission.

Charr’s experience is a problem for him, but lack of experience isn’t an issue when a young fighter is fighting for a world title against a fighter like Vitali who is well past his prime at this point.

Vitali’s focus may not be entirely on Charr for this fight, because many boxing fans and writers see Charr as not having a chance. Believe me, he does have a chance, a good chance. Vitali may think he can blow through Charr to get to a fight against Haye or to get to the elections in October. But if Charr doesn’t go anywhere in the first seven rounds, Vitali is going to be in trouble in this fight.
