Image: Broner, Seth Mitchell and Keith Thurman back in action on 10/6By Dan Ambrose: Golden Boy Promotions is looking to put together a triple-header on October 6th in Atlantic City with unbeaten lightweight Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s), welterweight prospect Keith Thurman (18-0, 17 KO’s) and heavyweight contender Seth Mitchell (25-0, 19 KO’s) in separate bouts against opponents still to be determined according to RingTV.

I like the fact that Golden Boy wants to put these three fighters on the same card, but I have a sinking suspicion that all three of the fights will be terrible mismatches. Broner wants to fight WBC lightweight champion Antonio DeMarco or WBO champ Ricky Burns but that’s not going to happen because both of those fighters have bouts scheduled that will get in the way of a Broner fight.

Thurman, a junior middleweight-sized welterweight, is still being matched against fodder opposition. That probably won’t change even though he wiped out little known 2nd tier fighter Orlando Lora last weekend and called out Paulie Malignaggi, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Tim Bradley. Golden Boy isn’t going to put the 23-year-old Thurman with a live body because the chances are way too high that he’ll get humiliated at this point. Thurman is way too flawed for him to fight a good welterweight without being schooled. As such, he’ll likely be facing another 2nd tier fighter in another mismatch. I can’t get excited about that.

Mitchell, 30, has good power but he was almost knocked out by Chazz Witherspoon in his last bout last April. Golden Boy won’t take chances with him either, because he’s still too crude to put in with anyone that has got any kind of skills.
