Image: Broner: I'm going to capitalize on every mistake you make and it only takes one mistakeBy Scott Gilfoid: WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (23-0, 19 KO’s) takes his next step towards super-stardom on July 21st against #1 World Boxing Organization challenger Vincente Escobedo (26-3, 15 KO’s) in a fight that will almost surely end with a highlight reel KO for Broner at the U.S Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Broner isn’t even 23, and yet he’s well on his way to taking Floyd Mayweather Jr’s place as boxing’s #1 star. Broner turns 23 on July 28th and it’s scary to imagine how much better Broner is going to get and how much he’s going to accomplish before his fighting days are over. But Broner has to keep impressing boxing fans and opening the eyes of boxing fans to show how good he is.

Escobedo is a test for Broner, and he’s got to show that he can beat this trial horse to get to the better fights at super featherweight and lightweight. Escobedo is ranked #1, but let’s be honest here. Escobedo is more at home at the bottom 20 spot than he is at #1. Escobedo has no business being ranked that high, and I wonder what the WBO saw in him to give him such an inflated ranking. More power to Escobedo for getting such a high positioning by the WBO, but they’re not going him any favors other than putting him in a position to get a payday. Escobedo is going to be creamed by Broner and left on the canvas wondering what hit him on July 21. This isn’t going to be a fight.

Broner said “Boxing is 90 percent mental and 10 percent physical. These guys are playing checkers and I’m playing chess. I’m going to capitalize on every mistake you make and it only takes one mistake and your a** is grass.

Broner has impressive wins over Daniel Ponce De Leon, Jason Litzau, Vicente Martin Rodriguez and Eloy Perez. Apart from the De Leon fight, which was a slightly competitive fight, Broner has been blowing everyone away without any problems.

Escobedo got this title shot off of four consecutive wins over Walter Estrada, Rocky Juarez, Lonnie Smith and Juan Ruiz. None of those fighters are even close to being as good as Broner.
