Dunkin told RingTV “I would love a Marquez fight or something like that for Brandon.”

I hate to be the one to rain on Dunkin’s parade but Marquez isn’t going to take that for a couple of reasons. First off, there’s no money in a Rios fight, not the kind of money that Marquez is looking to get. Marquez is hoping to face Manny Pacquiao in a fourth fight in November and the money he’ll get for that fight is a lot more than what he’ll receive for facing Rios. The other thing that will get in the way of Marquez fighting Rios is how awful Rios looked in winning a controversial decision over Richard Abril last April.

Rios obviously felt he deserved to get the 12 round split decision victory, but few other people believe it. It just looked like a one-sided fight from start to finish. It doesn’t make Rios look at all good that he’s not interested in fighting Abril again to prove that he deserved to get the win. It just makes Rios look like he’s happy that he got the win and doesn’t want to take any chances in a second fight against Abril.

Marquez isn’t going to want to fight a guy like Rios coming off of a performance like that. There’s still too much stink coming from that performance and Rios should be doing the right thing by choosing to fight Abril again so he can get rid of it. But Marquez isn’t going to fight someone coming off of a performance like that. Why should he?
