Billy Dib signs with 50 Cent’s TMT Promotions
By Scott Gilfoid: IBF featherweight champ Billy Dib (35-1, 21 KO’s) is the latest top fighter to sign with the new promotional company – TMT Promotions – run by 50 Cent [aka Curtis Jackson] and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Dib, 26, was wooed by 50 Cent after being flown over to the United States to meet with him, according to RingTV.
50 Cent said to RingTV “What I want to do with Billy Dibb is that you point out that he’s an Australian fighter, but we all recognized the IBF belt as a world title.”
Besides Dib, 50 Cent has recently signed the talented super middleweight Andre Dirrell and former two-time featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa to his new promotional stable. Dib may not have as high a ceiling as those two fighters, because he failed in the one fight where he took on a talented fighter in Steve Luevano in 2008. Since then, Dib has been carefully matched against guys that are more limited and perfect for his style of fighting.
If you put Dib in with guys like Orlando Salido, Mikey Garcia, Jhonny Gonzalez, Celestino Caballero, Juan Carlos Burgos, Juan Manuel Lopez and Chris John, Dib will struggle badly. But he does make for a good paper champion, as long as he avoids any of the good fighters in the division. I’m not sure how far 50 Cent can take him. If he matches him with someone too good, he’ll lose badly.
