Besides the two weight classes the 29-year-old Guerrero will be moving up, he’s also coming off of a torn rotator cuff of his left shoulder. That’s Guerrero’s power side and it’s never good to tear up the strong side where you get most of your power from like Guerrero did while training for his canceled fight against Marcos Maidana last year. Guerrero went under the knife and has since healed, but there is serious questions whether or not he’ll have the same kind of power that he had previous to the injury. I know of few fighters that are ever able to get the power back from the shoulder that they tore a rotator cuff.

Perhaps why Guerrero is so willing to quickly take the risky fight against Aydin is because there’s a small chance that Guerrero will get a fight against WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. in the future once Guerrero is the WBC interim welterweight champ. You can count on the World Boxing Council ordering Mayweather to take the fight with Guerrero, and you can bet that Mayweather will either ignore the WBC or tell them no thanks, and vacate the belt. It’s not because Mayweather is afraid of fighting Guerrero; it’s because there’s no money in fighting someone like Guerrero, who doesn’t have a big national fan base in the United States at this time.

None of this will really matter if Guerrero can’t beat Aydin on July 28th. Aydin is dangerous because he’s got so much power and he just keeps coming forward all the time. Getting hit by a puncher like Aydin for 12 rounds won’t be a pleasant experience for Guerrero, and there’s not much he can to avoid the shots. This isn’t a one-armed Michael Katsidis, who was only able to throw with power with his left hand in his loss to Guerrero. Aydin punches with big power with both hands and that’s what makes him so dangerous.
