Image: Angel Garcia: No rematch for Khan, he's done!By Allan Fox: If Amir Khan (26-3, 18 KO’s) was hoping to get a rematch against WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (24-0, 15 KO’s) after being crushed him by him last night in a 4th round TKO, Khan can pretty much forget it according to Garcia’s father Angel Garcia. He doesn’t want his son Danny go be taking his career backwards facing guys he already whipped.

At the post-fight press conference last night, Angel Garcia said this when one of the reporters asked about a potential rematch between Khan and Danny Garcia, according to fightnews.com “Why fight someone you just beat? That’s like wearing old shoes! You look at the future and not look backwards. Amir Khan is done! He’s over – a three times ex-champion.”

Angel has a good point. Why fight a guy like Khan again when it was such a blowout. It isn’t as if boxing fans will be pushing hard for the fight, because it was a mismatch after Khan was hurt. The only way that a rematch with Khan and Garcia will occur is if Golden Boy Promotions wants to waive a ton of money under Garcia’s snoot to get him to take the fight.

Obviously Golden Boy would be doing that in hopes of seeing Khan redeem himself somehow. However, that would be too risky and would likely backfire on Golden Boy and Khan if they made that move. Garcia is deadly with his left hook and roundhouse right hand, and he’d probably catch Khan sooner or later and we’d have a repeat of last night.

Right now Khan has three losses on his record, and possibly can have his career still salvaged if Golden Boy makes the fight moves. But if they put Khan back in with Garcia and suffers another knockout loss, Khan would be heading down the journeyman path to where he might never recover. Additionally, I can’t see HBO wanting to continue to televise Khan’s fights after he suffers yet another KO loss. The same for Sky Sports. It’s not interesting to see a fighter with fast hands and good boxing skills getting flattened when he’s put in with a live body.
