Image: Adrien Broner: The future of the sport or not?By Mr. Medrano: Adrien Broner (24-0-0 20 k.o.’s) has put together a string of wins in which he looks “great” against the people standing in front of him. So now the question has to be asked whether or not he is the future for the squared circle. He has yet to fight anyone who is well known in the sport, of course that is not saying much.

As there are fighters in the sport that very well known, who are now continuously being exposed as hype jobs. With that being said there are hype job fighters who have yet to be exposed due to opponent choice based on risk or size difference. Adrien Broner has a personality type that will turn many fans away as far as purchasing a fight to see him win. Floyd Mayweather is a genius in this sense. It seems that Floyd figured out before many that you cannot have all of the fans all of the time. Floyd knows that a fans love as well as hate sells tickets.

Adrien Broner seems to be following in Floyd’s footsteps in this sense. While Broner has looked really good in his wins he has yet to face someone who is a true test. As fans we all know that a fighter can go his entire career without facing a true test. This happens many times due to a division not having very much talent to speak of, also by a fighter only choosing to take fights in which he knows he has the advantage. I am sure that there are plenty of well-known fighters that Broner can walk through based on what he has shown so far.

The one thing that cannot be denied is that this fighter does have talent. Like I stated before there are plenty of fighters with a big enough name to make Adrian’s resume look impressive on paper. The question remains does he have what it takes to carry the weight of the sport? Will he be matched against the very best regardless of what risks lie ahead or will he duck and dodge and take fights for the sake of padding and protecting his record?

As a fan of the sport I hope that the best fights be made, and all worthy challengers taken on. I believe we as fans may be truly witnessing the birth of true star and win or lose if he takes the fights that should truly be taken, at that point respect for him will be earned. I personally like this new crop of young stars but I also believe that protection of a fighter’s record has become the norm.

Let’s just hope that this is not continuously the case for this new era. Have the young stars of the sport fight the best! Adrien Broner, Saul Alvarez, Danny Garcia, Brandon Rios, Nonito Donaire all of these fighters in my opinion ( just to name a few ) are the future of the sport, what they do with their career is up to them and their team!
