Image: Adamek-Walker on September 8th in New JerseyBy Dan Ambrose: Heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek (46-2, 28 KO’s) will be facing 6’4″ journeyman Travis Walker (39-7-1, 31 KO’s) on September 8th at the Prudential Center, in Newark, New Jersey. The 35-year-old Adamek wants this risky fight in order to get him ready for a bout against one of the bigger super heavyweights in the division.

Adamek failed badly last year when he fought WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko and was stopped in the 10th round of a one-sided fight in September of last year. Adamek just looked like he was too small to compete with the giant 6’7″ Vitali. Taking on Walker will give Adamek a good taste of what it will be like to fight someone like IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko or the other large heavyweights like Tyson Fury, David Price and Kubrat Pulev.

Walker can punch but he’s vulnerable against fighters that have power. He’s lost frequently when he’s faced halfway decent opposition, losing to Pulev, Johnathon Banks, Alex Lepai, Manuel Quezada, Ruslan Chagaev, Chris Arreola and TJ Wilson. It’s always by knockout. If Walker, 33, doesn’t get to his opponents early he ends up getting knocked out himself.

Walker will have a fair chance of getting a KO over Adamek, because Adamek looked very slow in his recent fight against Eddie Chambers from having packed on 10 pounds of muscle. If Adamek comes in as slow and heavy as he did in the Chambers fight, Walker will have a chance of pulling off an upset. As far as the fight going to the card, Walker doesn’t need to worry about losing a hometown decision because this fight will likely not make it to the cards. Either Adamek gets knocked out or Walker does. My guess is Walker will get flattened in a couple of rounds.
