Image: Roy Jones Jr. - Dawid Kostecki: Is Roy asking to be knocked out again?By Sean McDaniel: 43-year-old Roy Jones Jr. (55-8, 40 KO’s) will be stepping in the ring again on June 30th to face Poland’s Dawid Kostecki (39-1, 25 KO’s) in a 10 round bout in a still to be determined venue in Poland.

Depending on who you ask, Jones Jr. has either really stepped in it this time by facing the hard hitting Kostecki or he’s made the right decision by picking out a flawed slugger. I happen to be in the former camp. I think Jones is asking to get knocked out again, because Kostecki punches at least as hard as Danny Green and Denis Lebedev, two fighters that have knocked Jones out in the last few years.

Kostecki is no joke. He may be inexperienced when it comes to facing well known upper tier opposition, but you can see from watching his fights that he’s got major power. He’s someone that Jones will have a lot of problems with unless Jones can get him out of there quick on June 30th.

What makes things even tougher for Jones is that he’s lost three out of his last four fights, and he’s moving down from cruiserweight to take this fight. When you have an old fighter like Jones, you don’t like to see them moving down in weight at this point in their career. Jones’ problems started many years ago when after beating WBA World heavyweight champion John Ruiz by a 12 round unanimous decision in March 2003, Jones then moved back down in weight two divisions to defend his light heavyweight titles to Antonio Tarver.

Although Jones won the first fight against Tarver by a questionable 12 round decision in November 2003, Jones appeared to lose that fight and his power and reflexes seemed gone from having dropped so much weight. In their rematch in September May of 2004, Jones was knocked out in the 2nd round. Jones hasn’t been the same fighter since.
