Rafael: Kirkland asking for $2.5 million for Alvarez fight
By Dan Ambrose: According to Dan Rafael, James Kirkland can take the fight with WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez after all despite earlier today there being a report of Kirkland having injured his shoulder in training.
Rafael states that Kirkland wants $2.5 million for the fight against the 21-year-old Alvarez.
Rafael said on his twitter “Richard Schaefer says he is told Kirkland is actually ok but he has a new advisor who said he should ask for $2.5 million, so fight is up in the air. Apparently Kirkland is injured enough to turn down close to $1 million but would be ok enough if he got $2.5 million the new adviser is demanding.”
Wow! I don’t know what to think now. Is Kirkland injured or not? Whatever the case, he’s going to need to make a decision soon because it looks like Alvarez’s promoter, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer, is already looking at finding someone to replace Kirkland for the fight.
Kirkland is the best option if he can take the fight because he brings a name to the table that the other fighters don’t have. But if he’s injured what can you do?
