Image: Pavlik wants Bute, Froch or Ward if he can beat Rosinksy on July 7thBy Allan Fox: Former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (39-2, 34 KO’s) is hoping to get a big fight in the fall on HBO against Carl Froch, Andre Ward or Lucian Bute if the 30-year-old Pavlik can get past Will Rosinksy (16-1, 9 KO’s) on July 7th in their HBO televised fight on the undercard of the Nonito Donaire vs. Jeffrey Mathebula fight at the Home Depot Center, in Carson, California, United States.

At this point you really can’t guarantee that Pavlik will beat any fighter ranked in the top 15, because he’s no longer fighting at middleweight and at 168, he’s no longer a big fish in a small pond. Pavlik just looks like an average slow super middleweight with good power. Picture a less skilled version of Carl Froch, and you’ve got Pavlik. He should get past the 27-year-old Rosinsky, but you never know. Pavlik looked tired in beating little known fighter Scott Sigmon by a 7th round TKO earlier this month in an unimpressive performance from Pavlik. After the fight, Pavlik said that he was just having fun with Sigmon, and fighting him in close because he didn’t have any power to speak of. However, you don’t like to see fighters taking it easy and not shining against 3rd tier opposition like Sigmon. Pavlik looked like he hadn’t improved since being beaten by Bernard Hopkins and Sergio Martinez.

Pavlik said “Ward impresses me the most…I would love to fight him…Froch, I would love to fight. Bute also. There are a lot of opportunities out there.”

Pavlik won’t get a fight against Froch in 2012, because Froch is already booked up. Bute is a possibility, but he’s also got a fight coming up against Froch, so he’s probably not available either. Ward is scheduled to fight Chad Dawson in September, and that will likely be Ward’s first and last fight of 2012.

If Pavlik is going to get a big fight in the fall, it’s going to have to be a lesser fighter and not one of the real top fighters in the division. Perhaps it’s best for Pavlik that he not face those guys, because he’ll likely get beaten and at least if he continues to face guys like Sigmon and Aaron Jaco, he can put off the inevitable for a little while longer.
