Image: Ortiz vs. Alvarez and Chavez Jr. vs. Martinez; Top Rank vs. Golden BoyBy Mark Havey: WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (46-0-1, 32 KO’s) looked really good in stopping Andy Lee (28-2, 20 KO’s), a very dangerous fight. But the result I had anticipated, the announcement I hadn’t. Bob Arum confirmed Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez for September 15th. This is a fight I have wanted to see for such a long time.

I rate Chavez highly in contrast to most. He isn’t popular and most fans seem to foretell his demise every time he steps into the ring. They are wrong every time. People claim he fights ‘Bums’, but those are the same people that predict him to lose. I don’t know why people dislike him. I’m not a massive fan, but I like to watch him box. He is tough, exciting, hits hard, good chin and has good speed. But I don’t think he can beat Martinez.

Golden Boy Promotion has also confirmed Saul Ortiz vs. Victor Ortiz. This is another good fight. Alvarez is an explosive fighter and always delivers. He hits hard and still has a lengthy career in front of him. I always enjoy his fights and anticipate big things from him. Ortiz has experience at the top but doesn’t always succeed. He has however gained some big names on his record, elite fighters. The one thing going against Alvarez is the lack of big names. But I expect him to beat Ortiz.

These fights have left me scratching my head. Not because they aren’t good match ups, but because they are both on September 15th, on separate bills. I am having a nightmare picking who to watch. I prefer to watch Saul Alvarez over the others. But I have wanted to watch Chavez Jr. vs. Martinez for so long. It’s a tough one. Let me know who you all plan watching?
