Image: Khan putting on a lot of muscle for Garcia bout: Will this hurt Khan?By William Mackay: In training photos of ex-IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) it’s hard to miss how much more muscular Khan’s upper body has become due to his new weight training regimen that he’s undertaken to get ready for his July 14th fight against WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia (23-0, 14 KO’s) at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan looks quite a bit more muscular than he’s been in past fights and almost looks like a weight lifer rather than a fighter now. This might seem like it’s not a big deal but I think it will be a big deal, because Khan’s biggest asset has been his hand speed since he turned pro. I can’t help thinking that Khan will be noticeably slower with his new muscles, and I don’t see the muscles helping him with his punching power. Khan’s power will be just the same, and his weak chin will also be the same as well.

If you take Khan’s hand speed away from him then you really don’t have much. His is centered around his hand speed, because he’s not much of a puncher.

I think Garcia is going to have a great chance of knocking a slowed down Khan out cold on July 14th. Khan will be sorry that he packed on all that useless muscle because it won’t help him for this fight. I can understand Khan putting on muscle if he was to be fighting at 154lbs, but for him to be packing on muscle to fight at 140, I believe Khan is making a huge mistake that he’ll be sorry for later.

Khan should be working on his speed and his ability to run around the ring. His feet are needed to protect his chin. If he’s going to be top heavy, Khan’s legs are going to have problems carrying around all that bulk.
