Khan needs to be fighting in the UK, not the U.S

Image: Khan needs to be fighting in the UK, not the U.SBy Scott Gilfoid: Amir Khan will be fighting for the fifth time in his career in the United States against WBC light welterweight champion Danny Garcia on July 14th, and I think Khan is wasting his time by fighting in the U.S. instead of his home country of the UK. Let’s be clear about this, Khan isn’t going to be a huge star in America. That’s not going to happen.

Khan doesn’t have the fighting style that Americans like to see, and I don’t think he ever will. He is what he is. Khan’s a runner with a weak chin who uses different smothering techniques to try and shut down his opponent’s offense. He’s not like Floyd Mayweather Jr., who will stand his ground and pick off his opponents’ shots and block incoming fire.

Khan isn’t like Manny Pacquiao with his ability to go toe-to-toe with his opponents. Khan doesn’t have any of that. He’s just a guy with fast hands, who runs around the ring to keep from getting hit. He fades late in his fights, and doesn’t throw with power because he looks afraid of getting hammered. Let’s be real here. Khan won’t be a star in the U.S, because boxing fans hate Khan’s fighting style.

What Khan needs to do is either end his contract with Golden Boy Promotions or finish it and fight all of his bouts in the UK where he actually has a fan base. Khan can fight in front of huge crowds in Engand. It doesn’t matter who he fights; the Brits will show up and lap it up. But not in the U.S. Khan will be lucky if 3000 fans show up for his fight against Danny Garcia next month, and the fans that show up will likely be Garcia fans, not fans of Khan.

You see what I’m talking about? Khan isn’t a star and isn’t going to be a star in the U.S. He’s not Mexican, he doesn’t have an entertaining style of fighting, his chin is weak as heck, and he runs around the ring like a chicken with it’s head cut off each time he fights. Who wants to see that. My advice is for Khan to go back to the UK where he can entertain the Brits, who love to see him fight and adore him.
