Image: Kell Brook looking for KO against JonesBy Scott gilfoid: Unbeaten British welterweight contender Kell Brook (27-0, 18 KO’s) wants to try and take Carson Jones (34-8-2, 24 KO’s) out sometime before the 12th round in their IBF welterweight eliminator bout on July 7th at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK.

Brook doesn’t want to leave the hard punching Jones in the fight for too long where he can land one of his crushing right hands.

Brook said to Sky Sports News “We’d like to get him out before the 12th round. We now he’s been stopped before. I’m on the door step to a title shot.”

Brook is obviously looking past Jones instead of focusing at the task at hand. That’s too bad because I think Brook is going to take a beating in this fight and end up getting knocked out. Jones has experience at beating heavily hyped unbeaten fighters before. In 2009, Brook went up against Tyrone Brunson, who up until that time, had been knocking everyone round and just rolling over them. However, Jones ended up punishing Brunson in knocking him out in the 3rd round. I see the same thing happening against Brook. Jones has got another hyped opponent with little experience against quality opposition. Brook is totally unproven at this point and he’s going to be way out of his league when he gets in with Jones.

What I like about Jones is his right hand power. He throws with perfect form. You can’t teach that kind of form that Jones throws with, because he’s so perfect. He looks like Joe Louis when he unleashes his right hands. If you get hit with one of those shots, you’re either going to go down or you’re going to be stunned.

Brook is going to make it easy for Jones by walking into his best shots instead of playing it safe. Part of that is basic cockiness. Brook thinks he’s going to win and move on to a title shot. Poor guy is going to have to go back to the rebuilding stage of his career after the loss.
