By Robert Elmore: The Manny Pacquiao/ Juan Manuel Marquez fight is looking like it will take place on November 10th of this year. What’s strange is that date was set for Bradley/Pacquaio rematch.

I have a couple theories about this. One, Manny’s last six fights were against Top Rank fighters (Mosley was not signed, but Top Rank had an option on him; so he was on Top Rank; and Marquez who is still on Top Rank and was signed when his third fight came against Manny) and I don’t see this trend ending until he retires.

It is highly rumored that Manny’s contract is up with Top Rank next year, but I believe Bob wants to keep everything in house. So I believe Manny will fight Marquez this fall; then rematch Bradley in the spring of 13; then end with a trilogy in the fall of next year. It could happen, it couldn’t happen, but I believe it’s going to happen based on what has taken place in the past.

Arum is a businessman; bottom line. With no other cash cow in his stable (it looks like Bradley will be the new cash cow), he has no one to put in the ring and do big numbers. The upcoming Julio Chavez Jr. vs. Sergio Martinez fight should fare well on pay per view, but that will be short-lived. For one, the other champions in the middleweight division Dimitry Pirog (WBO champ) Daniel Geale (IBF) and Felix Strum (WBA) not big draws. It everybody seems to happy to have a belt. Who knows? Chavez Jr. might leave Top Rank as well. I won’t be buying anything that comes out of Top Rank if they try to say “We want the Mayweather fight”.

Arum can’t control Floyd and he would have to share profits. That’s not happening. This is why Floyd, De La Hoya, and Cotto all left Top Rank. They knew they could make more money with Arum and they could have control over their careers. What will be funny is that if Manny leaves Top Rank and negotiates with Floyd and the fight gets done if no time flat, the public will see who was really holding up the fight. The Mayweather-Cotto fight was done in a week. But it only got done when Cotto struck out on his own. Manny should do the same.
