Image: Is Haye vs. Chisora, Good or bad for boxing?By Mark Havey: Vitali Klitschko had successfully defended his WBC title against Dereck Chisora in a tough, but clear win. The press conference was bound to be interesting, it always is with Chisora involved. Haye was there on official work for TV network BoxNation.

Haye and Chisora soon exchanged words, the action had started. Haye started throwing punches at Chisora and his trainer, Don Charles. There was talk of Haye using a bottle and Chisora was heard saying he would shoot David Haye.

The week had already been action packed. Chisora had slapped Klitschko at the weigh in, followed by spitting water over his Brother before the fight, then the Haye brawl. All of this led to him losing his license. Haye was in retirement, so had no permit to box. None of this seems to matter. Frank Warren has made the fight which is set for July 14th 2012. But is it good for boxing?

I seem to spend my life defending this incredible sport. I let my young child watch fights, encourage classes, and will tell anyone who will listen of the great work boxers do for their communities. But I was mortified to watch the brawl in Munich. I can’t defend it and am glad my child was not awake that late to see. But every cloud has a silver lining. The heavyweight division has suddenly got people talking. People are excited. I can’t blame them as it should be a good fight. But it’s the rivalry that has everyone’s blood bumping. So is it good or bad for boxing? Anything that gets people talking or excited about boxing is good. If someone can ignite the dwindling heavyweight division, even better.
