Image: Fury vs. Maddalone: Tyson continues with the easy path to a title shotBy Scott Gilfoid: Tyson Fury (18-0, 13 KO’s) isn’t exactly pushing his career in overdrive since beating Derek Chisora last year. For some reason Fury seems to be resting on his laurels and taking it easy since the Chisora fight, as if he’s somehow got things twisted in his head that he’s got it made.

He’s faced three easy opponents since the Chisora fight and beaten all of them, but looked horrible each time.

I don’t know what happened to him but he looks like he just started his pro career and has forgotten everything he’s learned in the ring in the past four years.

Fury will be fighting 2nd tier fighter Vinny Maddalone (35-7, 26 KO’s) in a 12 round bout next month on July 7th in what looks to be another one of Fury’s mismatches that he’s getting accustomed to fighting.

Fury should win this fight as long as Maddalone doesn’t find his chin with anything hard. If he can land something big and then follow it up with a few more decent shots, I think Maddalone can whip Fury. He’s second tier but Fury’s chin is soft and he can taken out with a hard shot. Fury’s defense is atrocious.

I’m being kind here. There’s no other way to describe because he doesn’t block punches like most fighters do with their gloves. Fury tends to turn his head and take hard shots that way. It’s only a matter of time before he gets knocked cold when he faces his first quality opponent. I guess maybe it is good that Fury keeps fighting guys like Maddalone because when he steps it up, he likely be knocked out quickly and then he’ll be looking for another line of work.

If I’m Maddalone, I’m going right after Fury in the first round to take him out with a flurry of shots. Fury is a slow starter and for some reason he always gets hurt early. Maddalone just has to be smart by putting Fury out of his misery with a salvo of shots so that he can’t get back up.
