Image: Froch expects to announce Kessler fight in two weeks - NewsBy Scott Gilfoid: IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) expects to have announcement in a couple of weeks time about a rematch between him and the incredibly ring-rusty Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KO’s) in a fight that will almost surely take place in Nottingham, Froch’s home city in the UK.

Froch and Kessler’s promoters are currently negotiating the fight, and Froch wants to get Kessler over to the UK. Personally, I think Kessler will be asking for it if he agrees to that, because we already saw what happened to the talented American Andre Dirrell when he flew over to Nottingham and fought Froch three years ago.

Froch told Sky Sports News “Mikkel Kessler is the fight I want…We’re talking about getting them over to England, which is always difficult to sign a contract…Hopefully in the next two weeks we’ll have an announcement to make…I’m definitely going to beat Kessler, especially if it is in England.”

You noticed that last part where Froch says “Especially if it is in England.” Oh yeah, I agree with that one. Kessler is really up against it here if he agrees to fight Froch in England. I hope Kessler has a lot of confidence in his ability to knock Froch cold, because that’s about the only way I see Kessler escaping from the UK with a win.

If I was Kessler’s promoter I’d tell Froch’s promoter ‘No dice, it’s not happening. It’s a neutral venue or nothing.’ I guess Kessler must really need the fight or something for to be willing to fight Froch in Nottingham. I wouldn’t do it ever, because the chances are high that Kessler will walk out of there a loser no matter how good he fights. God, look at poor Dirrell. He was dominating Froch, and he ended up on the receiving end of what I consider to be a hometown decision. I still can’t forget how Froch body slammed Dirrell in the 5th round and the referee stood and did nothing. Froch roughed Dirrell up from the 5th to the 11th, using various fouls and was still never penalized. I’d never seen a fight as foul-plagued as that one, and I couldn’t believe that Froch wasn’t penalized once.
