Deontay Wilder vs. Owen Beck on Saturday

By Scott Gilfoid: Unbeaten heavyweight talent Deontay Wilder (22-0, 22 KO’s) will be gunning for his 23rd consecutive knockout on Saturday night against Owen Beck (29-10, 20 KO’s) in what is sure to be an exciting eight round affair at the Killer Buzz Arena in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

For the 6’7″ former 2008 U.S heavyweight Olympian Wilder this will be one of the last soft opponents he takes before stepping it up in a big way and going after a title shot in 2013.

Beck, 36, has run into some problems in the past two years with his career suddenly going belly up with him suffering seven consecutive losses. However, he’s a lot better than that, and his power is still very much there. He may not be succeeding like he was earlier in his career, but he can still punch with good power.

At 26, Wilder is almost the finished product and ready to knock off the other top contenders and/or prospects in the sport. Wilder is already arguably the best heavyweight prospect in boxing right now. I’d favor him over the likes of Seth Mitchell, David Price and Tyson Fury. He’s got that big one-punch power in his right hand that makes him dangerous for anyone in the heavyweight division.

Wilder reminds of a heavyweight version of Julian Jackson with his ability to end a fight with one shot from his right hand. Jackson obviously a little different because he had one punch power in both hands and not just his right. However, Wilder is developing his left hand more and more, and it won’t be long before it’s as dangerous as his right hand. What makes Wilder so good is that he hits so hard that guys can’t make it more than one or two rounds again him unless they run.

I expect Wilder to get Beck out of there in a round or two on Saturday. Beck will give it his best shot, but Wilder’s beautiful left hand power will spoil things for Beck early on. Look for a brutal one punch knockout win for Wilder.
