A huge sellout crowd of 10,000+ fans are expected to turn out for this bout which matches the best fighter in the super middleweight division in Ward going up against the best light heavyweight in the division in Dawson. The fight will take place at super middleweight, however, and there won’t be any catchweights involved. Dawson says he has no problems in moving down from 175 to take the fight at 168 lbs. A lot of boxing fans think Dawson is making a mistake in doing this, but he begs to differ. He feels that taking off a mere seven pounds isn’t a big deal for him and he plans on making the weight without any struggles or complaints.

Ward will be giving up five inches in reach in three inches in height to the 6’3″ Dawson. Although listed at 6’1″, Dawson is clearly 6’3″, as he towered over Dawson and Bernard Hopkins, both of which are listed at 6-feet.

Ward recently captured the Super Six tournament trophy with a narrow 12 round decision win over Carl Froch in the finals last December. Other than that fight, Ward breezed through his other tournament fights, beating Mikkel Kessler, Allan Green and Arthur Abraham with ease. Ward hasn’t fought since the Froch fight, and he turned down a fight against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute.

Dawson recently defeated 47-year-old WBC light heavyweight champion Bernard Hopkins in a close fight. Dawson dominated the action when he wanted to but he could have made the fight much more conclusive had he left his hands go more. In past fights, Dawson has beaten the likes of Glen Johnson and Antonio Tarver.
