Image: Chisora-Haye: This fight will likely include a lot of foulingBy William Mackay: I hope the referee is on his toes on July 14th, because he’s going to need to be in order to enforce the rules for the David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) and Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) heavyweight clash at Upton Park, in London. Both Chisora and Haye have a lot of bad blood stemming from their brawl last February at the Chisora-Vitali Klitschko post fight press conference.

That alone tells you that there’s going to be a lot of problems related to fouling in the Haye-Chisora fight. However, that’s not all of it. Haye and Chisora have shown a tendency to foul in past fights. In fairness to Chisora, he mostly does the crazy stuff outside of the ring and generally keeps it clean inside of it. However, there was the bite incident where Chisora bit one of his opponents in the ring several years ago, and that right there is cause for concern.

Haye is perhaps the dirtier fighter of the two, because of his tendency to throw rabbit punches and hold & hit when he gets excited. Because of Haye’s fast hand speed and huge power, he’s very dangerous when he fouls. Just take one look at how he worked over John Ruiz in their fight in 2010 where Haye landed rabbit punches and did a fair amount of holding and hitting in that one. If Haye is able to throw those kinds of punches against Chisora without being penalized, we could see a very short fight on July 14th. Chisora has a great chin, but getting hit in the back of the head is something that few fighters can prepare for or deal with.
