Image: Chambers vs. Adamek tonightBy Allan Fox: Tonight former heavyweight title challenger Eddie Chambers (36-2, 18 KO’s) will be coming off of a long 16 month layoff to face Tomasz Adamek (45-2, 28 KO’s) in a 12 round bout for the vacant IBF North American heavyweight title at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

This fight is pretty much in the bag for the 35-year-old Adamek already before the first punch has even been thrown. The reason for this is that Chambers has only fought once in the past two years since being viciously knocked out in the 12th round by IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, and Chambers is taking the fight without any kind of tune-up to get him ready.

He’s also giving away 23 pounds to the 225 pound Adamek, and that’s obviously going to be too much weight for Chambers. Another factor going in Adamek’s favor is that the fight will be a home fight for him, because he fights most of his bouts at the Prudential Center nowadays because of the large Polish community in the Newark area in New Jersey. Chambers is in a position where he may need a knockout to win, and with him weighing only 202 pounds, he’s not going to have the size to do the job.

For Chambers to win this fight he’s going to have to put a real beat down on Adamek, and that’s going to be hard because Adamek, if he can’t overpower you with his size and strength, he’ll run around the ring all night long to pound out a decision.

To beat Adamek you have to use your jab and cut off the ring on him, because he’ll circle all night long if you let him. Chambers has the speed to force Adamek to fight, but I’m not sure that his power will be good enough to get the job done.
