Carson Jones standing in the way of Brook’s title hopes

Image: Carson Jones standing in the way of Brook's title hopesBy Scott Gilfoid: While a lot of Brits look at unbeaten welterweight contender Kell Brook (27-0, 18 KO’s) and see a future champion in the 147 pound division the fact remains that the 26-year-old Brook has benefited from cushy matchmaking and still hasn’t faced a live body after eight years as a pro.

Brook is hoping to get a title shot against IBF champ Randall Bailey in the near future, but I’m afraid that’s not going to happen anytime soon. The problem is Brook is facing hard hitting, talented Carson Jones (34-8-2, 24 KO’s) next month on July 7th at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, UK.

Jones is going to knock the hopes and dreams out of Brook next month and delay his progress to a title shot. If Brook gets a title shot after getting beaten by Jones it will only be because Bailey wants a fighter coming off of a loss rather than one coming in with a long winning streak like Jones. And I don’t think Bailey would stoop so low as to scavenge a fight against Brook after he gets spanked by Jones. He knows how that would look and he wouldn’t want to be seen as a facing Jones’ leftovers.

Brook has decent power, decent hand speed, but he’s lacking in size. He’s too small, his reach not long enough and his power inadequate. Jones has better size than Brook, and much better power. He’s going to be on top of Brook all night long on July 7th, blasting away at him to get a stoppage and ruin Brooks’ hopes and dreams for a title shot.
