Image: Bute could face Pavlik nextBy Scott Gilfoid: Since it looks like IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch is going to face his former conqueror Mikkel Kessler next, Lucian Bute (30-1, 24 KO’s) and his promoters are looking to take on former WBC/WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik (38-2, 33 KO’s) next, provided that Pavlik beats little known fighter Scott Sigmon on Friday night.

Bute’s promoter Jean Bedard has been invited to attend the Pavlik vs. Scott Sigmon fight this Saturday by Pavlik’s promoters Carl Moretti and Todd Duboef, according to Le journal de Montreal.

Bedard said to QMI Agency “Lucian is going to rest until late June and we want to put all the options on the table for his return. We would like a duel against boxer Pavlik high level or even a rematch against Froch.”

Bute can pretty much forget about the Froch fight for now, because it looks like he’s going to take the Kessler rematch to try and avenge his loss from 2010. Bute vs. Pavlik is a nice fight to take in the meantime. Pavlik turned down a fight against Bute last year, because he didn’t like the money that was being offered. But he’s not exactly in the position to be turning down any fights right now because of how dramatically Pavlik has fallen off the boxing match. He probably wishes he had fought Bute after seeing him taken apart by Froch by fighting so poorly. Bute’s power and speed wasn’t the problem, it was his decision making that cost him that fight. He didn’t use his legs and then really screwed things up by fighting against the ropes. If Pavlik fails to take the fight with Bute, then the Romanian fighter may move up to light heavyweight and find some important fights at that weight class.

Pavlik has already been offered a fight by the IBF against Adonis Stevenson in an IBF super middleweight eliminator bout to pick a mandatory to face Froch. It’s not likely that Pavlik will take that fight, especially if the much bigger fight against Bute is available.
