Bradley doesn’t deserve a shot at Pacquiao

Image: Bradley doesn’t deserve a shot at PacquiaoBy Mark Havey: I’m looking forward to see Manny Pacquiao vs. Tim Bradley this Saturday night. I always like to see Pacman fight and recent fights would suggest Pacquiao is a fading fighter. I don’t agree. Pacquiao vs Shane Mosley was a boring fight if I’m honest, but Manny has said he didn’t want that fight.

Sugar Shane is surely a future hall of famer and is a legend. But he can’t compete at the top flight any longer. He has money problems and Pacquiao stated “I refused to knock him out. He lost everything in his divorce and I will not take advantage of a desperate man”

Pacquiao – Juan Manuel Marquez was a good fight but I didn’t see the usual aggression, speed and brilliance that has made Pacquiao a hero in his native Philippines. But Marquez has Pacquiao’s number. they could fight a million times and the outcome will be the same. Marquez is the one fighter that Pacquiao can’t look good against.

I can’t deny that Timothy Bradley is a good fighter. He is a young, ambitious, undefeated champion. But he isn’t a star like Manny Pacquiao and his record is very deceptive. He has had wins that were gained through the use of his head, which is of course illegal. One example is his win against Devon Alexander from a cut sustained from the use of a so-called accidental clash of heads. Bradley was in trouble with a Kendall Holt left hook. He doesn’t deal well with aggression, something that Pacquiao uses to break his opponents. The win against the 40 year old Joel Casamayor was mediocre and tedious. He lacks the killer instinct that Pacquiao possesses.

I expect Bradley to come out looking strong and confident. He will trick everyone into thinking he has a chance. But midway through the fight Bradley will start to shut down to survive till the end. I can see Pacquiao getting a 9th round KO. I don’t think it will go the distance. Bradley doesn’t have the qualities that saw Marquez shock the world by pushing Pacquiao to his limits. Bradley has a good tight defence which will help him for a little while, but if Pacquiao ever loses before he retires it will be to a counter puncher that can make the reactions of Marquez look slow. Bradley will never be a counter puncher. For months I have been hearing Bradley saying “Manny Pacquiao you cannot break me… come break down this wall”. Pacquiao is a bulldozer, the wall should go down with ease.
