Bradley gets decision over Pacquiao – I’m dumbfounded

Image: Bradley gets decision over Pacquiao - I'm dumbfoundedBy Colm Hutchinson: Quite simply, that is one of the worst decisions I have ever witnessed in boxing. I mean, we have had a few bad ones recently but that was incredible. Firstly, I wanted Bradley to win, I felt it was his time and his determination and motivation led me to think he could score the upset.

I even admit I was slightly biased in scoring the bout, trying to give Bradley the benefit of the close rounds but even after giving him the 2nd and 8th rounds, in which Pacquaio clearly landed the harder and more effective punches, I had the fight 116-112 ( I also gave Bradley the 10th and 12th).

Ringside scored the bout at 119-109, which I admit was a little skewed in Pacquaio’s favor, but it was abundantly clear that Pacquiao outfought, outworked, out-landed and out classed the overmatched Bradley. Just listening to Diaz in Bradley’s corner during the rounds, he was using Bradley’s foot injury as an excuse for Bradley losing the rounds, constantly trying to get Timmy to step up his game.

Pacman constantly snapped Bradley’s head back with his straight left and had him in trouble a few times in the early rounds, but I struggled to see one time where Bradley had Pacquaio in trouble or even forced him backwards. I do think that Pacman has himself to blame to a certain extent, as he was just too inactive in the early parts of the rounds when he could have been much more aggressive. That being said he still did more than enough to take the decision by a minimum of 115-113 in his favor on all 3 cards.

Like I said, I wanted Bradley to win this fight, but he just didn’t do enough to win it and once again, fans are left with a sour taste in their mouths after watching a big match-up that just doesn’t make sense when the scores are tallied.

While many will point to Pacquaio’s underserved split decision against Juan Manuel Marquez in his last fight, 2 wrongs don’t make a right, and if judges are going to continually base their decisions on past mistakes then the boxing is doomed to failure…
