Image: Arum: Pacquiao could fight Mayweather twice in 2013By Chris Williams: Top Rank promoter Bob Arum says his fighter Manny Pacquiao could face Floyd Mayweather Jr. twice in 2013 if everything goes right. Why Arum all of a sudden is talking not one but two fights for Pacquiao against Mayweather is the big question.

Does this suggest that he sees that the end is near for his Filipino star and that he’s looking to cash out while the money is still there? I mean, if Pacquiao continues to lose and look bad against guys like Tim Bradley, there won’t be any big payday fight against Mayweather, will there? Is this the angle that Arum is working at?

Arum told the Manila Standard “Obviously I don’t think that Mayweather, because it looks like he will be in prison at least one or two more months, will be prepared to fight this year. So I think that if the Mayweather fight happens it would probably happen sometime next year…Maybe fighting two fights with Mayweather next year.”

I don’t know about you, but I get the impression that Arum is looking to cash out with Pacquiao while he’s only been exposed once. The money will go downhill from here if he keeps looking horrible like he did against Bradley. One loss can be forgotten by the boxing public, especially with all the complaining that is being done about it. But a second, third and fourth loss for Pacquiao will likely hurt big time the money he can make.

Can you imagine Arum still selling Pacquiao as a pay-per-view fight with him getting beaten left and right by different fighters. This is why Arum needs to make the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight now while there’s still some fan interest in this fight. God knows, they had tons of chances to make the fight in the past, but with Arum talking about Pacquiao being cut too badly, needing an outdoor arena, it’s no surprise that they could never agree on a fight. But even if Arum is serious about wanting to put together a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight this time, I still don’t see it happening because Arum and Pacquiao’s insistence on getting a 50-50 deal.

Mayweather already said it’s not going to happen, and now after Pacquiao got beat by Bradley, it’s really not going to happen. Pacquiao will have to take his 60-40 deal and be happy he’s getting even that.
