Arum making a mistake if he puts Pacquiao back in with Marquez

Image: Arum making a mistake if he puts Pacquiao back in with MarquezBy Chris Williams: If Bob Arum knows what’s good for his aging fighter Manny Pacquiao, he’ll keep him far, far away from another fight with Juan Manuel Marquez. For that matter, he needs to keep Pacquiao away from Tim Bradley, because in a rematch, with two good feet, Bradley will out-box the aging Filipino and make him look silly in the process.

Bradley already figured Pacquiao out in the second half of their fight, and if he faces him again, he’ll dominate him fairly easily. It’s always worse for the older fighter in a rematch against a young lion like Bradley. But Arum definitely needs to keep Pacquiao away from Marquez, because he beat Pacquiao worse than Bradley did last November.

Pacquiao’s team used excuses about Pacquiao having family problems to try and explain why Pacquiao looked so god awful. Okay, they used that excuse for that fight with Marquez, but what about the other two? Was Pacquiao having family problems in 2004 and 2008 on the same nights he fought Marquez.

I think the excuses will have run dry if Pacquiao fights Marquez again, so Arum is better off digging up some of his Top Rank stable guys to feed to Pacquiao. Maybe drag in Mike Jones fresh from his 11th round knockout loss to Randall Bailey or get Joshua Clottey off his couch and put him back in with Pacquiao for a rematch. Against a stationary Clottey, I’m sure Pacquiao will look just as good as new. But Arum definitely needs to keep Pacquiao away from Marquez and Bradley, because these guys have got his number.
