Image: Roger Mayweather: Floyd won't be retiring; wants possible rematch with CottoBy Chris Williams: Floyd Mayweather Jr’s trainer/uncle Roger Mayweather says Floyd won’t be retiring after struggling to a 12 round unanimous decision over WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto last night in Las Vegas.

Roger is looking for a rematch between Mayweather Jr. and Cotto. Who can blame him with the money Floyd made last night with a guaranteed $32 million plus whatever the upside pay-per-view money turns out being.

Roger said to Mlive.com “He [Mayweather] ain’t gonna retire when he can make that kind of money. People liked the fight. They think the fight was competitive, but it wasn’t as competitive as some people thought it was.”

I thought it was competitive, and I frankly surprised at how well Cotto did. I’d be more than interested in seeing Mayweather fight Cotto again, if a fight with Manny Pacquiao can’t be made. Mayweather beat Cotto by the scores of 118-110, 117-111 and 117-111. I agree with the scores, because Cotto seemed to lose a couple of gears in the last four rounds when Mayweather took the fight to him.

Cotto slowed down at the wrong point in the fight and lost the championship rounds. Still, it wasn’t the kind of victory that we’re used to seeing from Floyd and I think he should fight Cotto again if there’s no else out there for Mayweather fight to fight. After this performance, you can forget about Mayweather fighting Sergio Martinez because Mayweather doesn’t have the size to take that fight.

I think he might win it, but he’d take a lot of punishment, a lot more than he did last night. Saul Alvarez and Amir Khan aren’t ready to fight Mayweather. Both need more seasoning before facing him. Other than those guys and Pacquiao, there’s no one else to fight but Cotto. If Mayweather takes on guys like Devon Alexander, Robert Guerrero, Erislandy Lara, Vanes Martirosyan, Austin Trout or Paulie Malignaggi, the casual boxing fans wouldn’t have much interest because none of those guys are big stars. There’s little options for Mayweather but to fight Cotto again unless he and Pacquiao can come to an agreement, which I seriously doubt.

I like the Cotto rematch. Mayweather needs to prove that he can beat the guy more impressively while he waits for Pacquiao or one of the other guys to be ready.
