By Dallan O’ Donnell: Pound for pound number 2 in the world Manny Pacquiao has decided to arrive in America on Saturday May 5th. The same day unbeaten pound for pound King Floyd Mayweather is battling Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas.
Manny and his camp obviously feel the need to use Mayweather to stay in the media and limelight as not many people are concerned at the moment with Pacquiao’s bout against Timothy Bradley next month.
By arriving on Saturday it shows a disinterest that Pacquiao has for Mayweather and what he is doing. At least that is what Manny is trying to do. He’s trying to get under Floyd’s skin by telling him not everyone is interested.
In my opinion it shows how desperate Pacquiao is, with a lesser opponent to face and nowhere near the hype that Mayweather’s fight has or will have coming up to the event Pacquiao needs to crash the Mayweather – Cotto party. Pacquiao may also be worried that he won’t get the Mayweather fight at all as Mayweather is happy not to face Pacquiao.
Manny is, it seems on a downward spiral after his last few performances, he may feel the need to get under Floyd’s skin to eventually get the fight. Personally I am looking forward to the Bradley bout. I think we could see the return of the brilliant Pacquiao who has dazzled us in recent years. But I still think it’s petulant to arrive in Los Angeles on May 5th.
Don’t be fooled, it’s no coincidence. This was purposefully done. And it shows us that even camp Pacquiao think they need to use Floyd Mayweather to stay relevant. Follow me on Twitter @dallan09
