Image: Mayweather vs. Cotto predictionBy Dallan O’ Donnell: After seeing the weigh-in for tomorrow night’s fight it hasn’t made picking a winner easier. The smart money is on Mayweather but I have a feeling (albeit the same feeling I had when Hatton fought Mayweather in 2007) that a shock and a change to the script is long overdue.

Mayweather came in at 151 pounds, his heaviest be one pound for a fight while Cotto looked strong, weighing 154 pounds, right on the limit. Nobody has yet picked Cotto to beat Mayweather and people calling this a knockout in the late rounds for Floyd. But this will be close. The first 8 rounds are key.

If Cotto is still looking strong, and fighting well then it could be his night, but then again, Mayweather could start landing his right hand at will and operate like a surgeon. Cotto does cut easily. Mayweather was tagged and hurt by a 39 year old Shane Mosley. There are so many ways this fight could go.

What it will come down to is determination. Mayweather has been here before, but we don’t know if he can go to the trenches. Cotto will have huge support in the MGM tomorrow night, many Puerto Ricans will be there to see their man do the business. So don’t underestimate the power of determination, Cotto is very determined and stays that way all through the fight.

If you have determination, anything is possible. Like my brother’s football match last night. His team, like Cotto, went in as the underdogs but came out on top and won three to nothing. Will the judge’s scorecards be that way tomorrow? I pick Miguel Cotto to beat Mayweather. I think he can come of age and do what has never been done. Who do you pick?
