Image: Kessler: I have no problem fighting Froch in EnglandBy Dan Ambrose: Former WBA/WBC super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler (45-2, 34 KO’s) says he’s interested in facing IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) next and Kessler doesn’t mind having to travel to England to face Froch in Nottingham in order to make the fight happen.

Kessler said to the express.co.uk “I am sure Froch thinks he will beat me next time, and I hope there is a next time, as I will show that I am the better fighter. I would have no problem traveling to England to face Froch. He came to Denmark, so why not?”

Kessler is no doubt high on Froch’s list of fighters that he’d like to face next. Two years ago, Froch was beaten by Kessler by a 12 round unanimous decision in the Super Six tournament in April 2010 in Herning, Denmark. Kessler won by the close scores of 115-113, 116-112 and 117-111. However, it was a clear win for Kessler and he showed int that fight that his boxing skills were superior to Froch’s.

Late in the fight, Froch rallied and made it close, but he clearly struggled early on. Froch still feels he won that fight and that the outcome would have been different had it taken place in the UK. It’s debatable. Froch does seem to fight with more energy when fighting at home, but it’s unclear whether that would help him in this case. Kessler isn’t someone that gets hit routinely with right hands the way that Lucian Bute did last night, and Kessler isn’t going to make the mistake of backing up and trying to fight off the ropes the way that Bute did. Kessler also has an excellent jab, a better one than Froch’s. Bute wasn’t throwing any jabs at Froch last night and that made things much easier for Froch to tee off with his combinations.

Kessler would be a really hard fight for Froch if he chooses to take it. Kessler’s boxing skills would make it tough because he’s not going to sit in one spot and just look to load up on one shot at a time the way that Bute was. He’ll be throwing jabs, moving around the ring, throwing body shots and trying to out-box Froch.

Kessler defeated American Allan Green in his last fight by a 4th round TKO on May 19th. That was Kessler’s first fight since June of last year. Kessler was knocked down early in the 1st round, but came back to knock Green out cold with a big left hook to the head in the 4th.
