McKenna (McJack): As expected whenever undefeated superstar World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s) wants to hype one of his fights, he elects not to talk about his opponent. Instead he invokes the name of the one fighter he will never engage in the ring, Filipino icon World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s).

Early reports are that ticket sales for Saturday nights fight at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas between “Money” Mayweather and WBA light middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO’s) have not gone as well as expected. Mayweather is the best in the business when it comes to promoting himself. And for the last several years, whenever “Pretty Boy” wants to hype one of his fights he invokes the name of his arch rival Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

It goes something like this. When Floyd announces the date and venue for one of his fights, never against Pacquiao of course, he invokes the name of the “Pacman”. When Mayweather reserved the MGM Grand Arena last November for May 5, 2012, the word went out that Floyd was reserving the venue for a fight between himself and “The little fella”, knowing full well that his diehard fans would assume that “The little fella” meant Manny Pacquiao.

In his desire to make more and more money, “Money” is not above taking his fans for fools. Floyd never had any intention of taking on Pacquiao in the ring. Why should he when he can take on what for him is a risk free opponent and still rake in a cool $35 million dollars.

When Floyd goes on his Twitter account and tweets “Your next!” or “Step up punk!” or “I’m fighting Miguel Cotto because Miss Pacman did not step up”, it is not done with the intent of lining up a fight with Manny Pacquiao. Rather it is another attempt by “Pretty Boy” to stay relevant. Let’s be real. A deal worth upwards of $200 million in its entirety is not going to be done via Floyd Mayweather’s Twitter account.

This writer predicted in an article written a week ago that Floyd would go on one of his famous rants slamming Manny during fight week in a further effort to hype his fight with Cotto. Well here it is fight week and predictably Mayweather is at it again. Once again Floyd drug out the dead issue of Pacquiao not wanting to be drug tested although that issue was resolved months ago.

Floyd will go on to easily defeat another overmatched opponent Saturday night. At this point “Money” will only take on fighters he knows he cannot lose to. As much as this writer would like to see Miguel Cotto pull off a major upset, it isn’t going to happen. Look for Mayweather to sharp shoot Miguel with his razor sharp combinations. After four or five rounds Cotto’s face will begin to fall apart and the blood will start to flow. At that point Miguel will become discouraged and begin to take risks which will only quicken his demise.

Look for Mayweather to go 43 – “0” with a TKO stoppage over Cotto in nine or ten rounds. I’m hoping against hope that I am wrong, but I seriously doubt it. I learned a very long time ago not to predict the outcome of a fight based on emotion.
