Image: Froch shouldn't take the Kessler fightBy William Mackay: Right now newly crowned IBF super middleweight champion Carl Froch is probably feeling sky-high from his big upset win over IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute last weekend.

Froch probably feels like he can climb the tallest mountain and accomplish the most difficult task imaginable. However, Froch really needs to sit down and put things into perspective before he goes into a rematch with Mikkel Kessler, because it’s not going to be anything like his fight against a confused Bute.

Kessler knows exactly what he’s doing in the ring, and he won’t be making a ton of rookie mistakes against Froch. Kessler is faster, better skilled on defense and offense, and he’s probably got the better one punch power than Froch. Kessler’s kab is much better, his left hook is much better, his right hand is much better and his defense is world’s better than Froch.

The only thing that Froch has going for him is he’ll probably have a horde of British fans watching him if the fight is held in Nottingham. There will be a lot o fans there rooting Froch on. This means that Froch will try to slug with Kessler and take him out as quick as possible in the same way he attacked Bute immediately.

I’m afraid that’s not going to work with Kessler, because he’ll block or get out of the way of most of Froch’s shots and he’ll stay on the move so that he’s not just standing there rooted to the spot for Froch. But most importantly, Kessler will be using his power jab to stick Froch in his face with leather.

When Froch approaches him, Kessler will nail him with jabs and left hooks to the head. Froch won’t like that and will probably push forward even more. This will lead to a revolving cycle where Froch gets nailed, and in response gets angry, and then tries to attack Kessler. And each time Froch does this, he’ll get nailed with even more shots.

I think Froch should forget about the Kessler fight and look to take an easy fight in Nottingham against one of the local lads. Maybe knock off Nathan Cleverly or George Groves without breaking a sweat and then come back and give Bute a rematch.
