Froch should give Andre Dirrell a rematch

Image: Froch should give Andre Dirrell a rematchBy Scott Gilfoid: Now that Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) has won the IBF super middleweight title with his victory over Lucian Bute last night, I think boxing fans would like to see Froch give Andre Dirrell (20-1, 14 KO’s) a rematch so that Froch and Dirrell can prove who rightfully is the #2 fighter in the super middleweight division.

I thought Froch got a gift decision against Dirrell. Froch beat Dirrell three years ago in Nottingham, but many boxing fans, this writer included, saw Dirrell winning that fight by a comfortable margin. I had Dirrell winning more decisively than Andre Ward did in his win over Froch. Dirrell still feels he’s the better fighter and he’s already expressed interest in avenging his loss to Froch, although I’m not quite sure whether Dirrell would be interested in facing Froch in Nottingham again. Dirrell said not long ago that he’d fight Froch again as long as the fight takes place in a neutral venue, so he doesn’t get jobbed.

Dirrell was beating Froch to the punch all night long in their 2009 fight, hitting him and making him miss with his slow right hands. Froch began to foul in the 5th and the referee never did anything to stop the rough stuff from Froch. Instead, the referee took a point away from Dirrell in the 10th because he felt he was clinching too much. I thought it was a bad call.

Dirrell, #6 WBO, #12 IBF, #15 WBC, recently stopped Darryl Cunningham in the 2nd round last December. Dirrell looked incredible, showing blazing speed and huge power. He really showed his stuff in that fight.

I just wonder whether Froch would want to face the Matrix again because Dirrell was making Froch look bad the last time they fought, and I guess Froch and his promoter won’t want to see him get dominated now that he’s riding high. Dirrell is too slick, too fast, and too skilled. I think that’s reason enough for him to get ignored by Froch.
