Image: Froch: My fans are in for a real treat on SaturdayBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch has got it in his head that he’s going to win the world title on Saturday night against IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute, and he sees himself as giving his loyal British fans a real show. God, I feel sorry for Froch already. All those sad Brits are going to witness Froch getting spanked, and they’ll have to go home on a real downer.

I just hope none of the Brits are expecting Froch to win so it’s not such a crushing blow for them afterwards when Froch is face down on the canvas grimacing in pain from one of Bute’s huge body shots. It’s better to go into this fight with low expectations. That way there won’t be any let down when things turn sour for Froch.

Froch said “I badly want to win this world title in front of my home fans. So the fans are in for a real treat.”

Oh man, I don’t like the way this sounds. It’s like Froch is doomed now, and those words will come back to haunt him. A treat? Nah, I see it as a some kind of treat in reverse if you’re a Froch fan. I see this fight ending badly for him, and I think he should have chosen to fight Bute in Montreal, so that his fans didn’t have to see him get put down by Bute. We’re talking about Froch facing a superior fighter in almost ever facet of his game. Bute isn’t just a harder puncher than Froch. He’s also faster, better defensively, and a moves a lot better.

The only advantage Froch has is he’s got a good chin, which is a nice thing to have. But Bute isn’t going to be looking to KO Froch with head shots. He’s going to go for the body, and Froch is going to be in for a world of hurt once Bute lands an especially hard body shot. Froch can have the best chin in the world for all it matters, but when Bute lands one of his left hand smashes to Froch’s midsection, he’s going to collapse down on the canvas in a ball of pain. Froch’s fans will no doubt be shocked and disappointed in seeing him get taken out in this fashion, but it’s not like it’s unexpected or anything. We’ve already see Bute knock out most of his recent opponents with body shots, so why should Froch be any different?
