Froch considering Kessler, Ward or Bute for next fight

Image: Froch considering Kessler, Ward or Bute for next fightBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch (29-2, 21 KO’s) is now the new IBF super middleweight champion by virtue of his 5th round TKO win over Lucian Bute last Saturday night. Froch is now trying to choose his next opponent. If Bute decides to face him again, then Froch doesn’t have a choice but to face him.

However, Froch is looking at some other options besides Bute. He told Sky Sports News “There’s not many Carl Froch breeds out there. There are a few. There’s Jean Pascal, Mikkel Kessler. There’s the potential rematch with Andre Ward. There’s a couple of lads coming up. So I’ve got options. Eddie [Hearn] is talking about a steady fight, an easy fight. I can’t seem to get my head around a normal, but maybe it’s an option we might look at.”

So in other words, Froch may choose to milk his title for his next fight if Bute decides he doesn’t want the rematch in Montreal. I never thought I’d see the day when Froch chose to milk his title. Sad. I hope he doesn’t, because he needs to follow Andre Ward’s lead by continuing to take on the best. Ward is facing Chad Dawson in September. As you probably know by now, Dawson is considered to be the best fighter in the light heavyweight division right now bar none. It’s a credit to Ward that he’s willing to face this huge talent.

Froch said recently that he doesn’t plan on fighting Ward next, so I’m not sure why he even bothered to mention his name. I guess Froch was name dropping Ward’s name to get attention. But what’s the use if he’s not going to fight him again and try to avenge his defeat?

Kessler likely will be the guy that Froch tries to fight next if the Bute rematch doesn’t happen.

I have no clue why Froch seems to always mention Pascal’s name. He already beat Pascal, and pascal lost his last fight to 47-year-old Bernard Hopkins. I don’t see the appeal in Froch facing Pascal again. He just got exposed in back to back fights against Hopkins, and there’s no point in Froch facing him after those two fights.
