Froch: Bute doesn’t deserve to be ranked #1 or #2; he’s overrated

Image: Froch: Bute doesn’t deserve to be ranked #1 or #2; he’s overratedBy Scott Gilfoid: Carl Froch sure doesn’t see his opponent IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute in the same league as him. He’s not giving Bute any credit for being extreme talent with skills that most fighters would die for, but I’m sure Froch will be whistling a different tune after tomorrow night when he meets up with Bute at the Nottingham Arena.

I suspect Froch will be pouring on the compliments left and right after he gets knocked out by the powerful Romanian.

Froch said this to ESPN: “I don’t know 100 percent if he’s [Bute] good enough to mix it but I’m going to find out…He doesn’t deserve to be ranked number #1 or number #2. Lucian Bute, on paper, is overrated.”

What the heck is Froch talking about? Bute has some very impressive wins on his record against tough fighters like Sakio Bika, Librado Andrade, Edison Miranda, Brian Magee, Fulgencio Zuniga, Alejandro Berrio, Glen Johnson, Jesse Brinkley and Lolenga Mock. Those are good fighters. Mock knocked David Haye down years ago in a fight. That guy can really punch.

I think Froch is going to get either knocked cold by Bute from one of his big uppercuts to the chin or Froch is going to get taken out with a body shot and will end up in excruciating pain on the canvas. The hard part for Froch is facing his fans after the fight. This is a home fight for Froch, and he’s going to have a massive amount of Brits in every corner of the Nottingham Arena bellowing with pro-Froch chants 24/7. I just wonder how they’ll take seeing Froch get leveled by Bute.

Froch has never technically been beaten at home in Nottingham, although I think he should have been beaten by American talent Andre Dirrell in their 2009 Super Six tournament fight. But Froch’s fans may react with anger if and when Froch gets knocked out. I just hope for Bute’s sake he can make it out of the ring in one piece. I’d hate to see him get brained by a flying projectile as he’s being interviewed in the ring after his KO victory.
