Who will Andre Ward fight next?

Image: Who will Andre Ward fight next?By Dallan O’ Donnell: In a super middleweight division that lies depleted after the recent super six tournament that exposed some fighters and sent others into near boxing Abyss there is an undefeated Champion, ranked number one in the world that will now struggle to get fights. His name is Andre Ward, once an Olympic gold medallist (2004) turned WBA and WBC super middleweight champion.

The reason he will struggle from here on in to find opponents is that they have all disappeared after the super six. Ward won the tournament (the ease it has to be said) beating his closest rival in the division Carl Froch by outclassing and out speeding him to cruise to a unanimous decision. Next in line you would imagine is unbeaten IBF champ Lucian Bute but he has signed a two fight deal with Carl Froch.

I expect Bute to win on both occasions most likely but he may not fight Andre Ward as by that stage Ward may have taken a big decision to further his own career and to have more fights. Ward could, with a little hard work move down to middleweight. He has no power at super-middleweight so losing knockout power won’t be the issue. He has very quick hands which he will easily take with him to middleweight.

If he can make the move it opens so many more doors for Ward, who calls himself S.O.G, which of course stands for confidence then. What awaits him in the middleweight division is very exciting, one Sergio Martinez is the star name that dominates the division and wouldn’t that be a tasty affair. Felix Sturm is another Marque name (mainly in Germany it has to be said.) There are also the light-middleweight fighters who can make the few pounds up to middleweight – Miguel Cotto is one, although he is somewhat preoccupied. Also Chavez Jr., resides in this weight class.

All be it fighting lesser opponents than himself. Also worth a mention are Martin Murray and Matthew Macklin. Many of these names won’t ever grace the ring with Ward but I want to show that there are better things for Andre if he were to come down to middleweight. We won’t mention what awaits if he wanted to move up as it would possibly be more disappointing than what he has to contend with at the minute. I would love to see Martinez vs. Ward however, that is certain to have fans interested. But where Ward is now at super middleweight, he is a massive talent wasting away.
