Image: Mayweather needs to beat Cotto with ease to improve on Pacquiao's performanceBy Dan Ambrose: Undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s) is getting Manny Pacquiao’s sloppy seconds in taking on WBA junior middleweight champion Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO’s) for his title on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. There’s much to get excited about in this fight because Cotto has already been beaten up and stopped by Pacquiao in 2009, the last time that Cotto fought a good opponent.

And Cotto was also beaten up by a prime Antonio Margarito without a ringside doctor to stop the action right when Cotto was starting to take a pounding like the last time they fought last December. Since Cotto has already been exposed by Pacquiao three years ago, there’s not much for Mayweather to get excited about with this fight other than to try and take Cotto out even faster and without suffering punishment the way that Pacquiao did in beating Cotto.

That wasn’t an easy fight for Pacquiao. He got one of his ears messed up and he had some swelling around the eyes from Cotto’s shots. Mayweather Jr. has to beat Cotto and do it cleanly like a surgeon without Cotto getting in all those licks like he did against Pacquiao.

The good news is Mayweather is a lot better fighter than Pacquiao defensively and rarely gets hit clean/ Cotto is slow and is so awful with his repetitive pattern of fighting. He’s someone that Mayweather Jr. already knows like a book and he’s ready for all the things that Cotto brings tot he table in this fight. Mayweather is going to get to Cotto and look to take him out early and with ease. He’s not going to struggle like Pacquiao did or let Cotto hang around and get some false hope. There’s not going to be any hope with this fight, because Mayweather Jr. is going to shut the door on Cotto’s face from the very beginning of the fight to let him know what time it is.
