Image: If Pacquiao loses to Bradley, he can forget about MayweatherBy Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is risking his big money fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr. by taking on Timothy Bradley on June 9th in an HBO pay-per-view bout. Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum may be kicking themselves in agony on June 10th if Pacquiao loses to Bradley. It won’t be just the Bradley fight Pacquiao will be losing. He’ll also be losing the Mayweather fight as well, because Floyd won’t bother taking on Pacquiao once he’s been exposed.

Pacquiao and Arum would have to really put the pressure on Mayweather to get a fight with him if Pacquiao loses to Bradley. I could see Mayweather still giving Pacquiao a fight, but only if he’s willing to accept an 80-20 purse split. The 70-30 purse split that Mayweather kindly offered would be off the table. It would be 20% for Pacquiao after that, and that would be good money given the still somewhat high interest in the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight. Fans would still probably be interested in the fight. They won’t be interested in Pacquiao insists on fighting Bradley a second time and gets beaten again. If that happens, then yeah, Pacquiao can say goodby to the Mayweather fight once for all.

Mayweather doesn’t want sloppy 2nds by taking on an already beaten up Pacquiao for the less money than he would have received if Pacquiao had simply accepted the $30 million that was kindly offered to him by Mayweather. It’s sad how people sometimes like their pride get in the way of things. Had Pacquiao accepted the huge offer Mayweather recently gave him, Pacquiao would have made the biggest payday of his career and done really well for himself. Now he doesn’t get that cash and is facing Bradley in a fight in which he may lose. I think a loss to Bradley, will be curtains for Pacquiao. The pride will be probably too much for him and he’ll hang up the gloves rather than continuing on and suffering additional losses.
