Image: Khan says he's going to show Peterson his best on May 19thBy William Mackay: Apparently former IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (26-2, 18 KO’s) didn’t show IBF/WBA light welterweight champion Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KO’s) the best of his abilities in his loss to Peterson last December. Khan says he’s going to show him the works in their rematch on May 19th at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khan told RingTV “I’m not taking anything away from Lamont; he’s a good fighter, but I just think you didn’t see the best of Amir Khan on that night.”

He sure could have fooled me. Khan looked like he had his foot to the floor and was maxed out to the fullest part of his game in losing that fight. How Khan could have gotten more out of his body is beyond me. He was running and fouling like mad in order to keep Peterson off of him. Not the best? Well, I could I agree that he didn’t fight the best fight by shoving, pulling down on Peterson’s head and putting him in headlocks all night. I thought that was amateur stuff born of desperation from Khan, but what else could he do? It’s pretty clear that his trainer Freddie Roach didn’t teach him enough skills to fight on the inside, so rather than trying to compete with Peterson in close, we saw Khan shoving, pulling him by the head and wrapping him up in beautiful MMA-like headlocks. And the referee let Khan get away with most of it.

If Khan wants to show his best side on May 19th, he’ll fight a clean fight by refraining from fouling and if he can’t match up, he’ll go out on his shield like a warrior.
