Image: Dream changed Pacquiao’s lifeBy John F. McKenna (McJack): Filipino icon Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KO’s) says that a vision he saw in a dream is responsible for his new found commitment to God. According to Manny, the dream he had earlier this year has had a huge impact on his life. Pacquiao revealed that in the dream God told him to retire soon. It was at that point that Manny gave up the vices in his life including the late night partying, gambling and drinking. Pacquiao at that time also decided to sell the farms where he raised the chickens used for cockfighting.

Pacquiao was quoted by GMA NEWS saying:

“I will not stay long in boxing because He said: ‘You have done enough. You have made yourself famous, but this is harmful.’”

Pacquiao was dead serious and somber when he made the comments about the vision he saw in the dream. When asked if his new found fervor and commitment to religion would impact his performance in the ring Manny responded by saying:

“I will do my work in the ring.”

“Pacman” became an international sensation by winning world titles in eight divisions as he rose up through the weight classes. Manny went on to parlay his fame as a boxer into riches not only in the ring, but also in entertainment in his native Philippines where he launched a singing career. Pacquiao was also elected to congress in Sarangani Province. In addition Manny has signed lucrative endorsement deals which will bring him further riches in future years.

Earlier this year another effort was made to work out a deal in which Pacquiao would meet in the ring with the other superstar in boxing undefeated WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (42-0, 26 KO’s). But other than send messages out on his Twitter account Floyd never allowed himself to engage in any serious negotiations.

The one time Pacquiao and Mayweather communicated on the phone, Floyd offered Manny $40 million up front. The proviso however was that Mayweather would get to keep the approximately $160 million Pay Per View (PPV) revenue. Of course the Pacquiao camp correctly perceived that offer as Mayweather not really wanting the fight.

Mayweather is quick to point out that Pacquiao will make more money fighting him than anyone else. What Floyd conveniently leaves out however is that the very same thing is true for Mayweather. Floyd cannot bring in the same revenue fighting any other fighter as he can against Pacquiao. Pacquiao in fact has brought more money in on PPV than Mayweather has for his comparable last three fights. Pacquiao’s live gate revenue is also higher than Mayweather’s.
