Bute-Froch: Why do people want to see Carl get beat again?

Image: Bute-Froch: Why do people want to see Carl get beat again?By Scott Gilfoid: I’m trying to figure out why boxing fans want to see IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24 KO’s) fight Carl Froch (28-2, 20 KO’s) on May 26th at the Capital FM Arena, in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK. Froch has lost two out of his last four fights, and really three out of his last five bouts if you count his questionable win over Andre Dirrell in 2009 as another one of his losses.

Bute is looking a lot better than Froch and is coming into their May 26th fight in Nottingham with 30 consecutive wins, albeit against mostly middle of the road opposition. That’s obviously why the 34-year-old Froch feels he has a chance in this fight because to be honest, Froch would likely be still undefeated if he had faced the same guys that Bute has faced during his career. You can say the same thing about Dirrell, his brother Anthony Dirrell, Mikkel Kessler, Robert Stieglitz and Adonis Stevenson. Bute just hasn’t taken on any tough fighters for some reason. The Froch is a step up for him, but I still see him as a better fighter than Froch because of his hit and run style when facing hard punchers. He’ll run from Froch like no tomorrow rather than letting him clip his fragile chin.

Froch is going to lose this fight because Bute has got the style to beat him. Froch was already beaten by a past his best Mikkel Kessler and badly out-boxed by Dirrell in a fight where Froch was being humiliated by Dirrell until Froch started fouling. The referee did a thing to stop Froch from holding and hitting, throwing rabbit punches and body slamming Dirrell on the canvas. With all that, Froch still barely won by a 12 round split decision. I had Dirrell winning quite easily, but the fight took place in Froch’s home city of Nottingham and I guess you got to really pound him into the turf to get a win over there. Froch’s best wins have come against middleweight Arthur Abraham and 42-year-old Glen Johnson. Froch beat Jean Pascal in 2008, but Pascal was having problems with the weight and looked completely weight drained. Last December, Froch got dominated by WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward in the finals of the Super Six tournament.

I don’t want to see Froch get his backside handed to him again. I mean, the guy just got whipped by Ward. Why do we need to see Froch get beaten again. Maybe I’m seeing things too clearly and need to have my mind fogged by wishful thinking. If I could trick myself into thinking that Froch did a good job against Dirrell, Ward and Kessler, I might want to see him fight Bute. However, I think Froch looked terrible in those three fights and for this reason I don’t want to see him get spanked yet again. Yeah, I know why Bute picked him out. Froch fits in with the guys that Bute has been fighting. I wouldn’t expect Bute to break from his pattern and finally take on a real talent like Andre Dirrell after all these years.
